Sheikh Farooq Ahmed Appointed FFUN Ambassador for Central Asia and the Far East

Almaty 01 November 2026

The Foundation for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (FFUN SDG) officially presented the appointment of Sheikh Farooq Ahmed as Ambassador for Central Asia and the Far East during an institutional ceremony held in Almaty.
The appointment was presented by Maurizio Aronica, President of FFUN SDG, who highlighted the Foundation's commitment to Kazakhstan, where it has been active for more than three years as a partner of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).
The ceremony marked the beginning of a new phase for FFUN, with plans to establish a stronger, more sustained local presence in Kazakhstan and progressively expand its activities into other Central Asian countries, while promoting international partnerships in education, sustainable development, culture, and innovation.
A special highlight of the event was a video message from Mr Amir Piric, Director of the UNESCO Hub for Central Asia. Although unable to attend in person, he sent his greetings to the participants, emphasising the importance of international cooperation, education, cultural dialogue and sustainable development.
In his inaugural address, Sheikh Farooq Ahmed affirmed his commitment to developing initiatives to expand international cooperation, particularly in education. His extensive experience in Central Asia and longstanding engagement in medical education make him an important addition to FFUN's regional leadership.
The appointment represents an important step in FFUN's commitment to building stronger connections between Central Asia, Europe and the international community.
